About this policy

This privacy policy explains how Konter ground UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Beusselstr. 22, 10553 Berlin, Germany (“we”, “us”) processes personal data in the TAP TAP CHOOSE! mobile app.

1. What data we process

  • Location data: When you tap the button, the app uses your current location to find open restaurants nearby. Your location is sent to our server for each search but is not stored. Location access only happens while you use the app and only with your permission.
  • Anonymous device ID: The app generates a random identifier (UUID) on your device. Without an account it is not linked to your name or email. We use it to enforce usage limits, remember which places you have already seen, and store your visit confirmations and ratings.
  • Account (optional): Everything works without an account except sharing your own lists. If you choose to sign in, whether with Sign in with Apple, with Google or with an email magic link, we store your user ID and your email address and link the devices you have used to that account. It exists so your spots, films, lists and your username survive a reinstall or a new phone, and so a shared link can say who it came from. If you use Apple’s “Hide My Email”, we only ever see Apple’s relay address. You can delete your account, and with it everything named above, at any time in the app under “Delete account”.
  • Email: If you sign in with a magic link, we send exactly one login email per request through our email provider. We send no newsletters and no marketing.
  • Username: To share a list you pick a name that is unique across all users. We store it with your account and show it publicly as @name on every page you share. If you rename yourself, pages you shared earlier show the new name too. This is why sharing needs an account: a name tied to one phone would be lost with the app and could not be given back to you. You can change it at any time in the app.
  • Shared lists (optional): If you tap “Share my map”, we create a link with a random token that shows what you chose to put in it, which can be places you confirmed visiting and films you rated, with their names, coordinates where there are any, and your star ratings, on a public web page. Anyone with the link can open it and search engines may index it. The page also shows your username, so whoever opens it can see who it came from. It contains no email address and no device ID. The link is only created when you actively share, and we revoke it on request.
  • Films: For the film section we send your device’s country (from its region setting, e.g. “DE”) to our server to look up what is streamable where you are. No location and no device ID reaches the streaming data provider.
  • Usage data: Which places were shown to you, which ones you opened in your maps app, which visits you confirmed and how you rated them (1-5 stars), and whether you tapped “Rate on Google”.
  • Analytics and crash data: We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand anonymous usage patterns, and Sentry to find crashes and freezes. Sentry receives no personal data.
  • Advertising data: We show ads via Google AdMob. On iOS, we ask for tracking permission via Apple’s App Tracking Transparency dialog. In the EU/EEA and UK, we ask for your consent via Google UMP before personalized ads are shown. If you decline, you will see non-personalized ads.
  • Translation: Recipes are supplied in English. If your device is set to another language, the recipe card offers to translate it. This happens entirely on your device, using the translation built into iOS or Android. The recipe text is not sent to us or to any third party for this, and your device may download a language pack from Apple or Google the first time.
  • Push notifications: If you allow notifications, a push token is stored so we can send a single follow-up question after a visit. You can revoke this permission at any time in your system settings.
  • In-app purchases: If you buy a TAP TAP CHOOSE! Pro subscription, the purchase is handled by Apple on iPhone and by Google Play on Android. We do not receive or store your payment details. We are only given a pseudonymous transaction or subscription identifier that we use to unlock Pro features on your device, including ad-free use, the film section, the filters in the cooking section, and photos of the suggestions. Apple’s Privacy Policy applies in addition.

2. Services we use

  • Google Places API (Google Ireland Ltd.): restaurant data and photos. Your coordinates are sent through our server to Google; your device ID is not forwarded.
  • Supabase (EU-hosted): backend and database for usage counters, shown places, visits, ratings, and push scheduling.
  • Google Firebase: Analytics and Cloud Messaging.
  • Sentry: crash and freeze reports.
  • Google AdMob: advertising.
  • Apple (App Store / StoreKit, Sign in with Apple): processes in-app subscription purchases and provides the pseudonymous subscription status; with Sign in with Apple, Apple authenticates you and passes us a user ID and an email or relay address. Apple’s own privacy policy applies to the payment.
  • Google (Sign in with Google): if you use it, Google authenticates you and passes us a user ID and your email address.
  • Resend (email delivery): delivers the magic-link login emails and receives your email address for that purpose.
  • Vercel Inc. (hosting, USA): hosts this website and the public page for shared map links. Standard contractual clauses apply.
  • Streaming Availability API / movieofthenight (via RapidAPI): supplies the film and series catalogue. Receives only a country code, never your location, device ID or account.
  • Spoonacular (recipes): supplies the recipe suggestions in the cooking section. Receives no data about you at all, neither location nor device ID nor account: we fetch general recipe lists that are the same for every user.

Google services may transfer data to the USA. Google is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

3. Legal bases (Art. 6 GDPR)

  • Location processing: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
  • Usage limits, visit history, and core app features: our legitimate interest in providing and protecting the service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
  • Personalized advertising and analytics identifiers: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), revocable at any time.
  • Crash reporting: our legitimate interest in app stability (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
  • Subscription status used to unlock Pro features: performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
  • Account, login emails and syncing your data across your devices: performance of a contract at your request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
  • Your username and creating a share link: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), given by picking a name and actively sharing; revocable at any time.

4. Storage period

  • Location: not stored.
  • Shown places and usage counters: stored per device ID; cycle counters reset automatically.
  • Visits and ratings: stored until you request deletion.
  • Account and email address: stored until you delete the account. Deleting it removes your map and history with it.
  • Shared lists: stored until revoked or until the account is deleted.
  • Username: stored until you change it or delete your account.
  • You can reset the anonymous device ID by uninstalling and reinstalling the app, as long as you are not signed in.

5. Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify, delete, and restrict the processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to object (Art. 15-21 GDPR). If you have an account, write to us from the email address you signed in with. Without an account we only know your anonymous device ID, so please provide it where possible: tap@taptapchoose.com. You can delete an account yourself at any time in the app.

You may also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Our authority is the Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit.

6. Children

The app is not directed at children under 16.
